Since its inception, ILA membership has been extended to those who share our vision, philosophical values and will commit to personal growth in leader excellence. As such ILA has been committed to uncompromising membership rules that demand tough ethical standards in its application and maintained through annual successful reviews by our Board of Directors.

Membership normally begins with an application for candidacy as an associate member and involves:-
- Application Form ($75USD per individual - not available on an organisational level)
- Biographical Detail (Financial, Educational, Associational)
- Personal & Psychological Assessment
- Hard-Questions Paper
- Interview with Regional Associate
- Successful applications are invited to complete the training track for Associate Membership ($175 per year of review)
The following membership ranks were adopted by the 2010 AGM of the ILA Board of Directors:
Associate Member [Assoc ILA]
This is the preliminary rank restricted to the first three years while a prospective member is under review. The rank is awarded during the annual general meeting of the third year evaluation.
The successful candidate will have completed:-
Candidate Application Process & Assessment [4 months]
Training and successful completion of the ILA Associate Certificate: Foundations of Ethical Governance.
Member [Member ILA, MILA]
Membership is granted after six successful reviews. Members have satisfied and maintained ILA policies consistently, enjoy board privileges and voting rights. Members are active participants in the alliance coaching and mentoring program. Members have completed diploma level Integrity Training Programs. Members may use ILA logo and are recognised through the postnominal letters MILA.
Honorary Member [Hon MILA]
This Membership category is awarded to exceptional persons who have made extraordinary contributions to the work, research, philosophy or training of ILA. HON MILA may be published authorities or have otherwise shown tangible achievement in leader integrity, leadership excellence and furthered the development of ILA.

The former ‘Paper and Approved Membership’ categories are merged into the Associate Member category
‘Full Standing Member’ is replaced by ‘Member’ and recognised by the postnominal Member ILA or MILA.
Trust Membership is superceded by Honorary Membership & postnominals Hon MILA.
Summary of 2009 Membership Charter
- Membership is granted by privilege and proven consistence with the alliance charter and so can be suspended or terminated at the discretion of the B.o.D.
- Terminated Members must remove all ILA logo and supporting, affiliated and promotional material such as websites.
- Donors or charitable givers wield no influence in decision making or application criteria.
- Financial, capital or corporate asset has no basis for membership invitation or recommendation.
- Recommendations for advancement are normally restricted to the annual assembly.
- ILA rejects membership that discriminates against person, gender, race.
- Membership can not be influenced by notoriety of persons, company or organizational repute.
- Membership with other organizations, corporations or fraternities is no guarantee of membership with ILA.
- Membership is only granted by authority of the trustees of ILA according to application criteria.
- Any Member can invite candidacy for new membership.
- No member has authority to circumnavigate application or the candidate process.
